Josep Maria Bartomeu has been elected as president of FC Barcelona for a six-year term.
Bartomeu received 54.63 per cent of the vote, which took place at Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium on Saturday. The turnout was the third highest in the club's history with 47,270 members voting, 43.12 per cent of the electoral census of Barcelona's 109,647 members. Bartomeu was formerly Barcelona's vice-president and has stood in as president of the Spanish club since January 2014, after Sandro Rosell resigned amid a row over the transfer of Brazilian star Neymar. During his reign as stand-in president Barcelona achieved the treble, winning the Spanish La Liga title, the Uefa Champions League and the Spanish league cup, the Copa del Rey. In second place, with 33.03 per cent of the vote, was former president Joan Laporta, who held the role between 2003 and 2010. The result was declared by member of the electoral board and managing commission Jordi Calsamiglia. | |||||
